City Working & Island Living

Seattle, WA is home to tons of businesses, including two of the largest employers in the country! While many people love city living, some want to go home to a more relaxed pace.

Work in Seattle

Seattle is home to Amazon, which had nearly 570,000 employees as of six months ago and they are constantly hiring. Of course, Starbucks’ home is also in Seattle with over 250,000 employees. In addition to these huge companies, Costco Wholesale, Boeing, and Microsoft all employee well over 120,000 people each. Of course, there are a myriad of other businesses in the Seattle area and many of the employees live outside of the city.

Your Commute

At the end of a long day at work, do you crave the calming sound of the waves? A slower pace? A small community? Bainbridge Island, WA, is a peaceful haven with a convenient commute to the big city. Neighborhoods are alive with children, seniors, locals, and commuters.

Your trip to the dock depends on where you live on the Island, but once at the dock you can depend on the ferry to run on time. The ferry is free from Bainbridge Island to Seattle for walk-on passengers and vehicle prices vary. The trip from the Island to the city is approximately 35 minutes. WiFi is available in a quiet space if you want to read or work. Once docked, many companies are within walking distance. If yours isn’t close, the bus system is based on ferry traffic and stops at the dock regularly. Some companies have shuttles to pick people up, so check with your employer to see if this is an option for you.

Depending upon where you start on the island, whether you walk, bike, or drive, and the location of your workplace, the commute will likely take approximately one hour each way. Remember that a good portion of that time is on the ferry rather than behind the wheel! You can relax, socialize, or get some work done while you travel.

After Work

Once you’ve finished your day and taken the ferry back to Bainbridge Island, you’ll immediately feel the stress of your day ebb away with the tide. Take some time to have a delicious meal at one of our great “foodie” restaurants or pick something up at a gourmet food shop for dinner. Pour a glass of wine from one of the local wineries or a beer from a local brewery and look at the gorgeous views of the city or the mountains. This is the perfect antidote to the fast pace of the work day!
